Rhotia Valley Children's Home could not exist without the help, advice, money and efforts of many volunteers and donors. You all support our aim to give children a chance to be happy and healthy. A chance to get proper education and to develop their talents. We thank everyone for their wonderful contributions, the children can flourish because there are people in the world who care ...

 

Rhotia Valley Children's Home Foundation is run by volunteers in The Netherlands. The Foundation's board monitors the state of affairs in the Children's Home, raises funds and decides in permanent consultation with the founder and general manager of the project, Marise Koch, to which end donations will be used. 

 

A lot has been achieved - two houses are actually occupied by children who were brought forward to us by the community as needing help the most - there is a devoted and caring staff, there is clean water, healthy food, a vegetable garden, a soccer field, a chicken yard ... But  the project is far from finished.

 

Of course our ultimate aim is to be able to welcome another twelve children to the Home. The third house is available, but first we have to be sure that our present 24 children get our full attention, the good care and education we want them to have. We realize we cannot let them go until they are independent, self-supporting, strong persons with every potential to earn their own living, for they won't have family to fall back on ...

 

That is why we so much want to provide our children with good education, but we do encounter the limits of educational possibilities in Rhotia, in Tanzania: not enough means, not enough teachers. You realize part of a generation has been wiped out by AIDS.  So we support the local schools to improve the level of education. And we develop plans for additional training opportunities such as a skills centre!

 

Running projects

 

One laptop per child

This project started in 2008 with fundraising in The Netherlands, followed by preparations in Tanzania such as education of the teachers, and installation of solar energy panels on the roof of one school. The installation of the 100 laptops in two schools in Rhotia was completed in april 2009 - and now we are in the process of actual implementation.

 

Their own personality

Another running project is the collecting of a family history for every child in our home. Very carefully we probe their personal history, look for, visit and talk with their relatives, make pictures of the houses they once lived in, investigate any possible legacy etc. In the end they should all have their own personal history book, so when they are grown up and every memory has faded they know they are children with a family background, not just Children's Home kids!

 

Clean water

Improvement of the water system is an ever hot item. A substantial donation has been given to be able to improve the pumping and heating systems.

The Tented Lodge covers the running costs of the Children's Home, such as their daily food and adequate clothing, as much as possible, but we need yòur support for things like schoolfee's for the children who want to go to secondary school, educative toys, the inventory of the third house etc.
